SIMPSON HOUSING SERVICES

"Our mission is to house, support and advocate for people experiencing homelessness."

Staarabu Was Wise, Anana Was Gentle is beautifully illustrated and cleverly written in verse. It tells the story of two young animals on the African plain. Their families are facing homelessness due to a life threatening drought and they decide to solve the problem. Although they are inexperienced and afraid, they find the courage and display the creativity necessary to restore water to their homes. In the process, Staarabu and Anana experience an exciting journey; one that leaves them much more confident in themselves.

As two verses in Staarabu Was Wise, Anana Was Gentle confirm, this book is intended to provide children with pro-social messages that inspire confidence.

And one thing is clear, when we’re scared and feel fear, that our courage is not based on size. When it’s time to stand tall, why even the small are so often full of surprise.

Sure, we all have our fears; we get scared; we shed tears. But we can’t let that get in our way. See, our fears are not wrong; they can help us grow strong, just a little bit stronger each day.

The author of Staarabu Was Wise, Anana Was Gentle, Dan Haugen, is dedicated to serving the needs of children and families. He writes children’s books that provide children with pro-social messages concerning their unique attributes and challenges; books that also provide caregivers with opportunities to engage children in meaningful dialogue. Dan holds a PhD in Social Work and has served non-profit organizations and higher education since 1978. He uses his writing skills and proceeds deriving from those skills to benefit the homeless.
